Hello and welcome to my page! My research is focused mainly on the correlation between political misinformation on social media and the resulting economic inequality seen in the United States. I hope you enjoy :)
The Problem
For the last several decades, the US federal government has been monitoring the ever-increasing economic inequality in this country. Americans are seeing a larger gap between socioeconomic classes than ever before, increased taxes and a playing field that becomes more uneven by the day.

Despite the United States boasting a government "run by the people," economic inequality has only grown in severity over the years. This demonstrates that American citizens are not only failing to recognize and vote for solutions that solve their problems but also, supporting policies that controvert their best interests and allow economic inequality to prosper
Why Does it Happen?
> Confirmation bias
> Agreeing algorithms
> Unregulated virtual content
> Echo chambers
> Power-seeking politicians
Misinformation & The Problem
There are a variety of contributing factors to this problem however, one of the biggest ones is the unregulated and inaccurate information widely dispersed by social media.

Social media use has grown exponentially within the last decade becoming an essential political campaigning tool and news source for United States citizens. Despite its perks, the most popular social media platforms have little content regulation and are eager to push users into echo chambers where their pre-existing notions are reaffirmed and expanded upon.

Misinformation on social pushes many Americans to develop conclusions on false claims and reinforces these beliefs with an "eager to please" algorithm.
Why It Matters
Economic inequality faced by nearly every American citizen however, minorities are particularly harmed by the unfair policies and lack of accurate information available on social media.

Financial hardship is a top risk factor for suicide and is also the leading cause for divorce in the world. With every election, United States citizens hope that their financial burdens will be lifted and the government will work to deliver the American dream to every citizen, not just the top 5%.

With corrupt politicians taking advantage of desperate, misinformed Americans this dream has remained unfulfilled and the rich have continued to get richer and boost this country's economy at the expense of the poor.

For the advancement of the nation and quality of life for all Americans, it is essential that voters receive accurate, unbiased information regarding economics, politics and public policy.
