This research group examines the issues surrounding power dynamics, and the consequences misinformation has on them. Author Bianchi looks at the inequity women face due to the laws and regulations put in place restricting access to abortions through a neoliberal lens. Author Johnson analyzes the high pregnancy-related mortality ratio African American women experience and how factors, like implicit bias, affect this. Author Gibson-Ivester explores the wage disparity between women and men in the IT field and the misinformation that surrounds this issue. Author McAleer examines plastic pollution and investigates the stark reality that over 90% of plastic is not actually recycled. Together, our discussion on misinformation and its relationship with who’s in power addresses the larger matter of inequity rooted in societal institutions and practices, deepening our understanding of how dominant culture maintains its power over non-dominant groups/communities.
