This research group explores the significance of having a well rounded education system that acknowledges a number of social justice issues. The deficits found in the US education system in regards to social justice, diversity, and education causes disparities for several marginalized groups. This group examines the way dominant ideas are reinforced in an educational setting, the papers will delve into the role dominant idea’s play in education and their effects on underprivileged groups. Greene analyzes the effects of basing higher education institutions admissions on the idea of racial neutrality, omitting racial identification from the selection process. Jones examines the educational disparity when it comes to teaching about strong female leaders in curriculum. Warren-Boulton explores the impact of state regulations regarding sex ed for LGBTQ students. Wagner examines the disempowerment of neurodivergent students under standardized systems of academic measurement. In conjunction, these papers highlight the ongoing discrimination in the United States and emphasize the ever-growing disparities between the dominant ideas and marginalized groups within social justice, as well as their impact on education.
